Near the beginning of the 3 day hike to Poon Hill, starting at Pokhara, Nepal.
Rather than staying in tents like backpacking in other parts of the world, there are hotels, restaurants, and shops all along the trail. This was the beginning of the second day, and the hotel that we stayed at had a building next to it that was still structurally unsound from the 2015 earthquake. The owners of the building have barely seen any of the money promised to them by the government of Nepal
At the peak of the hike, we walked an hour and a half at 4:30 am to the top of Poon Hill. Amusingly, there was a Chai shop at the top as well. The hill was flooded with tourists, and anticipation grew as the sun-rise grew closer.
Finally, the sun kissed the top of the snow on “Fish-tail mountain.”
Then the sun reached the peak just a few miles south of us.
